YOU
As a Tool Design Engineer, you will be responsible for working with Simpson mechanical design standards to create progressive stamping die designs for new sheet metal products and to help automate or improve production methods for existing products. Working with our team of designers and toolmakers you will determine the optimal tool design given constraints of material, efficiency and reliability using mechanical knowledge, analytics and creative problem solving. You will create detailed new complete tool designs as well as designs to assist in prototyping new products and other improvement projects.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (% of Time)
Create progressive stamping tool designs including all assemblies, details and related data required for manufacturing the required tooling. (60%)


Collaborate with team members and other departments to plan for product manufacturing by analyzing product requirements and evaluate processes for tool design. (20%)


Provides design support to internal and external tooling teams during the manufacture of tooling and prototypes. (10%)


Maintain accurate design records to ensure long-term usability of design information. (10%)

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
If you can do everything listed above, you've got what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and creative thinking.
  • An understanding of Progressive Die design for sheet metal or similar manufacturing processes.
  • Practical machine shop experience or knowledge
  • Problem Solving: Effective analytical, technical, and problem solving skills. Ability to identify options for solving a problem and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses.
  • Team Player: Ability to calibrate with team members and across department lines to effectively plan projects and solve problems.
  • Software: Mechanical 2d and 3d design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Inventor. Microsoft Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, see, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. This role operates large equipment while standing for approximately 8-12 hours, regularly twisting and bending in a repetitive motion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and heavier weights with proper equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The job may risk exposure to heat and/or cold, loud noise levels, vibration, and moving mechanical parts.

TRAVEL REQUIRED
This job requires no domestic travel.

WORK STATUS & LOCATION
This full-time, exempt position is located in Stockton, CA.

RELOCATION
Relocation is not available for this position.

PAY
$77,200 - $100,300 / Year
