Description

To oversee and coordinate a variety of reprographics activities including the operation and maintenance of reprographics equipment and monitoring of inventory; to perform the most difficult and complex reprographic production activities; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the advanced journey level class within the Reprographics Technician series. Employees within this class are distinguished from Reprographics Technician by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including overseeing the operation and maintenance of assigned reprographics equipment. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from an assigned supervisor.
May oversee the work of student workers and lower level reprographic staff.
Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Oversee, coordinate and participate in a variety of complex reprographics activities; ensure work quality and clarity.
  2. Maintain an accurate inventory of reprographics supplies and materials; order replenishments as needed to perform assigned document production functions.
  3. Navigate and operate web to press software essential to order placement, fulfillment and completion of work including; schedules, catalogs, brochures, books, newsletters, signage, and course materials.
  4. Oversee the production of course catalogs, schedules, telephone directories, digests, newsletters and course description brochures.
  5. Oversee the operation and maintenance of a variety of reprographics equipment; ensure that all hazardous wastes produced from reprographic activities are placed in proper receptacles.
  6. Operate, clean and maintain digital presses, power paper cutters and other reprographics equipment; contact vendors for the repair of severe malfunctions.
  7. Operate and maintain various. reprographics finishing equipment such as; power paper cutters, power paper folders, hole punches, bindery equipment, stitching machines, collators, mailing inserters and padding equipment.
  8. Answer telephone, emails, meet with staff to provide insight and respond to questions and inquiries; refer callers to other District staff as necessary; contact staff and faculty as needed; provide accurate estimates of materials and time needed to complete printing jobs.
  9. Provide insight and proposals to customers to supply the most suitable solution to reprographic inquiries regarding paper media, finishing, and final aesthetics of various printed materials.
  10. Send document reproduction charges to appropriate District departments, divisions and offices.
  11. Trim paper to various sizes as needed for various printing jobs; perform folding, padding and other complex document finishing work.
  12. Oversee and train student workers.
  13. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications

Knowledge of:
  • Services, operations and activities of a modern print shop.
  • Operational characteristics of a variety of reprographics equipment.
  • Principles and practices of customer service.
  • Characteristics of various papers and inks.
  • Color standards CMYK and RGB print systems.
  • Principles and practices of inventory control.
  • Methods and techniques of handling hazardous materials.
  • Standard office procedures and equipment including computers.
Ability to:
  • Oversee and coordinate the services and operations of a modern print shop.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of a variety of reprographics equipment.
  • Design effective layouts for a variety of large documents.
  • Maintain color standards to ensure accurate branding and quality values.
  • Respond to requests from district employees and students.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of reprographics supplies.
  • Estimate time and materials needed for printing jobs.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds and disabilities of community college students and staff.
  • Sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time; operate assigned equipment; lift 50 pounds; bend, stoop, and kneel.
Education and Experience Requirements
Education:
Completion of the twelfth grade or the equivalent.
Experience:
Three years of increasingly responsible reprographics experience with at least one year experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
Additional experience with digital reprographics software such as Command Workstation, Power press, Impose and digital color presses preferred.
