About The Job
Dudek is seeking candidates for an Environmental Noise Analyst to join our Environmental Technical Group (ETG) noise team and support a broad range of client projects throughout California and elsewhere in the U.S. The candidate Dudek hires will work directly with a high-performing inter-office crew comprising junior, middle, and senior-level acousticians and analysts, including multiple Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE) members and INCE Board Certified members that serves many clients and their transportation, renewable energy, transmission, commercial and industrial development, environmental, and construction-related projects. The position would preferably be based among the Dudek or Portland offices where the new hire may have opportunity to work in-person with and learn from a mentor; however, alternative office basing and/or other work options may be considered. The position would require fitness for duty to conduct outdoor field work and associated physical demands; and some travel to and from client project sites will be required.

Duties and Responsibilities (may include some or all of the below):
  • Conduct noise and vibration measurements in the field and thoroughly document observed/perceived conditions and environmental settings;
  • Deploy, manage, and retrieve unattended instrumentation;
  • Process and analyze collected noise and vibration level data with instrument supplier software or Microsoft Excel tools;
  • Perform predictive sound propagation and sound transmission modeling (e.g., Federal Highway Administration [FHWA] Traffic Noise Model and Roadway Construction Noise Model, Datakustik Cadna/A, EASE, and Microsoft Excel-based tools);
  • Prepare field measurement survey maps and figures displaying noise level predictions (e.g., noise contours);
  • Research online noise/vibration laws, ordinances, regulations, policies and standards (LORPS) to support noise/vibration assessments and mitigation needs;
  • Draft report and technical memoranda narrative and quantitative analysis content under senior guidance or direction;
  • Demonstrate effective multi-task work management and prioritizing of assignments; and
  • Exhibit pro-active communication and cooperation with team members to help ensure quality assurance of work products, and high utilization and availability.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors' or Masters' degree in acoustics, engineering, physics, mathematics, environmental sciences, or related technical disciplines;
  • Noise and vibration measurement performance in the field, with data processing, analysis, and presentation using instrument supplier software or Microsoft Excel tools;
  • Proficiency with predictive sound propagation and sound transmission modeling (e.g., Federal Highway Administration [FHWA] Traffic Noise Model, Datakustik Cadna/A, SoundPLAN, MATLAB, or Microsoft Excel-based tools);
  • Familiarity with GIS and/or CAD software and related tools, for use with sound prediction model setup, inputs, and output;
  • Report and technical memoranda writing;
  • Noise and vibration impact or adverse effect assessment vis-a-vis federal, state, or local standards; and
  • 0 to 3 years of related job experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by first day of employment
As a federal contractor, successful candidates are required to pass the following pre-employment requirements prior to beginning employment: pre - employment drug test and background check.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE) full membership;
  • Completed academic coursework or professional training in acoustics or noise control engineering topics;
  • Familiarity with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) noise/vibration study or document section content and format;
  • Proven competency with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Traffic Noise Model (version 2.5), and Datakustik Cadna/A or SoundPLAN sound propagation software;
  • Team collaboration experience with teams for environmental and built-environment projects; and
  • Participation in public meetings or marketing pursuits.
Physical Requirements
Working Conditions:
  • This job operates in a remote or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
  • This job requires occasional project site visits-based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, moving vehicles and equipment.

  • This job requires working on a computer, sitting or standing for long periods of time in an office or remote office setting.
  • This job requires attending meetings, both in person and virtually as well as speaking on the phone with peers, clients, etc. Speaking, hearing and listening are required.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Outdoor activity may involve walking/trekking in uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.

Proposed Salary Range: $55,000 - $70,000
*Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual's related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
