Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose
Responsible for mid-level Grounds maintenance, under general supervision.
Essential Functions
  • Perform maintenance of campus grounds, using small and large equipment and hand tools and oversee and assist on crews.
  • Work on special projects.
  • Perform irrigation work; refuse removal, tree maintenance and field painting.
  • Performs minor repair of equipment.
  • Assists with set-up and tear-down of outdoor stages, tarps, tables and chairs.
  • Identifies maintenance or repair need and reports to appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in special constructions projects as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of experience in the field with considerable experience in Grounds maintenance.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent G.E.D.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of grounds equipment small and large.
  • Possess good communication skills and works well with others.
  • Working knowledge of lawn maintenance, irrigation work and of lawn maintenance equipment use and repair.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
Physical Requirements

Work is performed primarily outdoors with exposure to various temperatures and weather elements. Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises. Extensive physical activity. Constant bending, walking, standing, lifting up to 100 pounds, pushing or pulling up to 200 pounds. Ability to climb a ladder and work on areal lifts. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Repetitive use of hands.

Union membership required.

Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range $23.24 per hour. Union guidelines, non-exempt.
