Position: Operations Management Internship

Reports to: Director of Operations

Location: Milwaukee, WI

Type: Non-Exempt

Summary: The Operations Management Intern will directly assist the Director of Operations with a wide range of projects related, but not limited to, creating more efficient functional programs for Stein's, proposals and contracts, coordinating various projects including facility maintenance, capital asset planning, store merchandising, and other special projects. The internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn new skills and develop acquired skills, to include; project management, time management, business processes, budgeting, vendor involvement, subject research, interoffice communications, relationship development all conducted in a professional setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Learn and apply project management skills through exposure or ownership of projects and programs.
    • Actively research, analyze and make recommendations when developing new programs or improving existing programs.
  • Facility Maintenance
    • Coordinate facility/maintenance projects.
    • Assist in requests for proposals (RFPs), negotiate contracts, and define scopes.
    • Manage and coordinate company-use programs (i.e. janitorial supplies, fixtures, etc.).
    • Assist with planning and implementation of companywide store improvements.
    • Assist with capital asset planning including identification of current and future physical needs of the properties, budget planning, equipment research and recommendations.
    • Develop relationships with potential clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Merchandising
    • Assist with creating store merchandise layouts and product merchandizing ideas.
    • Identify store fixtures and other competitive advantages to create an excellent shopping experience.
    • Develop relationships with purchasing teams and store teams, creating a liaison between the two.
    • Assist the Director of Operations with special tasks as needed. Tasks may include: problem identification, analysis and resolution, providing assistance to retail/office staff, assisting with ongoing facilities projects, data management, proper storage, organization, inventory of supplies and property site visits.

  • Employment Requirements:
    • Current student pursuing a business degree, attending a trade school or technical school, or recent graduate pursuing a career in operations.
    • Organization, attention to detail, strong spelling, grammar, and writing skills are a must.
    • Solid analytical and logical processing.
    • Physical (hands on) involvement on operations projects from creation to completion.
    • Demonstrate exceptional time-management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and also collaborate within a team environment based on business needs.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
